About the Rain Room Sharjah
When I first heard about the Rain Room we had been living in Dubai for four weeks. We were due to move to the emirate of Sharjah next week and so I was keen to explore the area a bit and visit some of the most popular attractions.
Sharjah its self is the third-largest emirate by population and area, known for its rich cultural heritage, history, and commitment to preserving Arab, Islamic traditions and culture. The architecture here is amazing, there are less sky scrapers in comparison to Dubai and more greenery and unspoilt out door space.
You can get to the Rain Room Sharjah from Dubai centre in about 40 minutes.
I first saw the Rain Room on an Instagram post and was immediately intrigued!
“The Rain Room is a unique modern art installation, offering an inspirational and magical experience for visitors. Created by the London and Berlin-based Random International, the Rain Room is now permanently located in Sharjah. The installation has been displayed at the world’s most famous museums, including MoMA in New York and Barbican in London.
The experience is centred around audience interaction, enveloping a person in water without wetting them. With 2,500 litres of self-cleaning, recycled water, the Rain Room uses trigger sensors to pause the falling water wherever it senses motion. The contemporary art installation is supported by the Sharjah Art Foundation and is associated with the Sharjah Art Museum.”
Our visit to the Rain Room Sharjah
On arrival we were very pleased to find plenty of on-street parking. There is a lovely little coffee and cake café in reception and we treated ourselves to a latte and some delicious cakes before embarking on our rain- filled journey.
We followed our guide down underground and into a large, dark ( ish ) room. In the centre of the room is a large square shaped area where it appeared to be raining quite heavily. Our guide explained that if you move slowly through the rain you will not get wet – literally giving you the unique opportunity to walk through a heavy down pour whilst remaining ( mainly) dry! She warned us that if we moved too quickly then we would end up getting quite wet!
We spent about 20 minutes down there and had a lot of fun. The Rain Room Sharjah is an excellent photograph opportunity and we ended up leaving with some superb pictures and videos, just from our iPhones.
My daughter choose to run around and get absolutely soaked, whilst my husband and I tried to stay dry. Despite this we did get a little wet all the same!
We highly recommend visiting this unique, artist and very clever attraction when in Dubai.
