New Zealand has long been a destination for nature lovers from all over the world. It is one of the last places in the world where you can immerse yourself in pure, unspoilt nature but in a country with fantastic infrastructure.
Because of the focus on infrastructure, you can get around the country very easily with a lot of different options to suit your budget and travel style.
To get to the mountains, the beaches and still have access to cultural events, you have a lot of different transportation options.
In this article, I will go over what these options are to help you find your best way to travel and get the most out of your vacation to New Zealand.
1 – Rent a motorhome
New Zealand motorhome holidays are one of the best ways to see this magnificent country. There are very few cars on the highways here so touring around is easy to do. You are able to get right into the heart of the country and surround yourself in the best of nature. Make sure you read all about RV’s and take on board RV expert tips before you go.
Yet, at the same time, you have all the comforts of home. You don’t have to worry about getting to your hotel room after you’ve spent the day birdwatching, kayaking or any of the other numbers of ways to enjoy New Zealand.
The best part is the flexibility. You can linger in a spot as long as you want without having to rush off because you have a hotel reservation somewhere else.
2 – Backpacker tours
Backpackers love cheap travel with loads of perks, but those two criteria are very rarely ever found in the same sentence. Since New Zealand has long been a premier destination for backpackers, they have developed a system to cater to that type of traveller.
They use buses in which for the price of a ticket for the tour, you can jump on and off where you see fit. This offers that flexibility that backpackers love as they aren’t tied down to joining organized tours.
3 – Train
Taking advantage of the spectacular scenery are three different train lines that cross the country that are the most scenic routes available.
They aren’t commuter trains so you won’t be packed in with people taking part in the hustle and bustle of their daily routines or feel rushed to just get from point A to point B.
Instead, take in the relaxed atmosphere and travel around the country in comfort. The windows are oversized so you get a great view that is ideal for taking photos. And there is even audio commentary so you get all the information about the sights you are seeing.
4 – Buses
If you are on a budget or are a backpacker that isn’t into the party scene so those backpacker tours are not for you, then take the regular bus. They are extremely cheap compared to other travel methods and take you wherever you need to go. And since the roads are mostly traffic free, you can get there quickly.
