Tredwells, Covent Garden

Tredwells is one of Markus Wareings’ three London based restaurants. It is conveniently situated in the West End, an excellent location for pre show meals.

The entrance is the perfect combination of relaxed sophistication to put you immediately at ease. There is a warm and comfortable atmosphere.  We had a fabulous table very near the window so we could watch the bustling activity outside. The comfortable bench seating ensures immediate relaxation.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special. The children were welcomed, and treated with reverence. Our party was made up of 3 adults ( my mother, my husband, myself ) and two children, aged 10 and 6. I booked an early table, around 5.30 pm, as I knew, having been walking round London all day doing the true tourist thing, the children would be tired. This was ideal as the restaurant was quiet.

The service was exceptional. We were looked after effortlessly by 2 excellent waitresses, who were attentive and friendly. Nothing was to much trouble and whilst they were topping up our glasses before we even realised we were almost empty, at no point were we made to feel scrutinized or hurried.

And the food …..the food was every bit as wonderful as we had hoped. Contemporary English food showcasing the very best in seasonal British produce. The menus, both adults and children’s, provided excellent choice.

After our main course, we were taken quite by surprise when the children were invited by the manager, into the kitchens to help make their own desserts. Petrolhead A is 10 years old and an enormous fan of a certain TV cookery show, and whilst he was a little disappointed not to see Marcus himself in there slaving away over the stove, he was truly inspired. He was allowed to meet the chefs and take pictures for his scrap book. Its an experience they will always remember.

It doesn’t even end there. The manager had learned from the children that my mother is a huge Marcus Wareing fan,  and so before we left he presented her with a signed copy of Marcus’s new book. She was moved to tears.

When we booked we expected a memorable experience, but we certainly did not expect the staff to go so far and beyond to spoil and indulge us. It was truly fabulous.
